YOU’RE ENGAGED. Can you believe this day is finally here? So much is racing through your mind right now. It’s an exciting time but then your brain takes you into overdrive. I can see your eyes saying “What. Am I. Supposed to do next!?” Not to worry babe, we’ve got you.

Here are the first and MOST important steps now that you’re engaged. Here’s where you start.

1. Insure. Your. Ring. This comes from personal experience. A very painful personal experience. I actually lost my own engagement ring within 24 hours of getting engaged while on the beach in Waikiki. Long story short — it was not insured — I never saw it again and I never lived it down (and we’ve been married for 5 years now). Don’t play yourself.

2. CALL your family/friends. I mean, texts are ok but this news is pretty amazing so if they weren’t a part of the big day — pick up the phone and give your day-ones a ring. It’s worth it.

3. Budget + Guest list. Before you even start your endless Pinterest binges (which I’m actually 98% sure I’m too late for that one!) put a pretty firm number together for your budget and your guest list. These two things dictate almost every single item in your planning process so start with a solid foundation and things will be easier as you go along.

4. Find a planner. A planner can definitely save time, stress AND money. Having someone who’s done this a time or two can be your best investment. But — although, we highly encourage it, we know it’s not in the cards for everyone. If that’s you — here’s the next best thing. www.thecuratedwedding.com wedding membership site. This wedding planning site is the next best thing and actually also gives you access to a professional wedding planner for advice, feedback and events once a month. It’s definitely the next best thing for a fraction of the price.

5. Pick a timeframe not a date. Everyone tries to pick the perfect date but that can actually be a more stressful way to do it. It can limit the venues that are available and the vendors you’re able to book so if at all possible, pick a range of dates so you can keep your options open.
